Received a Present Yesterday

from my son for my birthday! When I opened the package I was over the moon! It was a life sized Sonic Screwdriver from Doctor Who! My all time favorite Sci-Fi show.
It's the device he carries that does many things except kill, the Doctor doesn't like to kill and he "never knows when he'll need a good screwdriver to put some cabinets up in the middle of the night". (A quote only hard core Doctor fans will get).

It lights up and makes the sonic noise and everything! Does my son "know" his geeky mom or what?

A Doctor Who Wedding Gift.

In March I was approached by someone who was going to attend a wedding of a family member in the UK. The Bride and Groom are huge Doctor Who fans as am I. The client originally wanted a Tardis that she could open and put money into for the couple's honeymoon in London. After talking a bit we decided to put a couple representing the Bride and Groom who would fit inside the Tardis and would travel with the Dr. for their honeymoon.

The Tardis plush I already make is squishy but this one had to have a compartment so some modifying had to be done. I had to put structure inside the walls. But I left the top part plushie.
The bride is a red head like the Doctor's current companion! The dolls are about 3 inches (7.5 cm) tall. They are the smallest dolls I've ever made!
See they fit right in!
The wedding was this weekend so I can finally show these photos. I was afraid they might show up on the internet somewhere and spoil the surprise. I had a lot of fun making this but it was a one time thing and I won't do it again cause it was hard! I hope the happy couple liked it!

RIP Sarah Jane Smith

Yesterday I was saddened to hear of the death of Elizabeth Sladen. Most Americans won't know her name but I do. She played Sarah Jane Smith on Doctor Who, a long running British sci-fi series. She was the Doctor's companion from 1973 to 1976 and was companion to first the Third Doctor then my favorite The Fourth Doctor. She was my all time favorite companion. She was a feminist, a journalist, nosey, strong, full of humor and had the great sense to travel through time and space with The Doctor. What an adventurer! I wanted to be Sarah Jane when I grew up.

I was beyond thrilled when Elizabeth reprized her role with Doctor 10.
She is also the only companion of the Doctor to have a spin off show, The Sarah Jane Adventures. Sarah Jane led the way for strong female companions like Martha Jones and Donna Noble.
Elizabeth Sladen's portrayal of Sarah Jane was such a large part of my childhood and my initial love of sci-fi that I for one will greatly miss her. RIP Sarah Jane.

A Peek At A Custom Order

A team member of mine saw a plush Tardis I did for a swap in my blog banner and wanted me to make one for him. You've seen it in bits and pieces and in the background of various other posts. I finally listed it today and he snapped it right up. I'm considering doing a listing to take custom orders for the holidays, cause it is very time consuming to make but fun.
Couldn't resist getting the toys out! LOL!

This is so much better than the one I did for the swap! Still want to make one for me but probably never will. Random Fact: I hummed the Doctor Who theme song when making this. Annoyed everyone around me! Wee Oooooo.....
