Gasp...I Took The Weekend Off!

My kids asked me to take the weekend off. I've been working 18 hour days usually 7 days a week for several weeks in a row and I guess I looked like I needed the time off!

I did sneak a little work in on Saturday morning before they got up but they'll never know. The rest of the time I surfed and cleaned the house. And man did my house need to be cleaned!

My son and I spent Saturday night watching "Back To The Future 1, 2 & 3" back to back. That was awesome! Those flicks are just the best and we had a great time taking about paradox and alternate realities. Because we are geeks and that's how we roll!

Here are some creative things I did over the weekend. I've been feeling that my studio just isn't fun. I get a lot of work done there but I don't enjoy my surroundings and as an artist (sort of anyway) I need visual fun. I adore toys and felt food and plushies and anything Japanese so I am slowing making some fun "Studio Friends". So take a peek, leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Since I finally had some free time and I really don't know what to do with myself unless I am doing something I thought I'd sew up some quick fun friends for my studio. I got this doll pattern from "Martha" it's a "Black Apple Doll Pattern". http://www.marthastewart.com/article/black-apple-doll?lnc=38f9cf380e1dd010VgnVCM1000005b09a00aRCRD

I used the pattern instead of making my own because I'm a crazed perfectionist and would have spent weeks designing something. It was just easier all around to use a free pattern and tailor it to what I wanted. I made her smaller than the original pattern and completely changed the face and hair for a more Japanese Kawaii doll.

I also made her out of felt. I have drawers full of felt and my sewing machine is evil and hates me right now. Believe me the feeling is mutual! I love felt, it's so easy to work with and the colors are fun too.

Here's how she turned out. I took pictures at night so it's a little hard to see her face. It's too cloudy today to retake so I'll do it at another time. I just adore her! My son's girlfriend wants her but I said I'd make one for her as a gift. Her dress is a little plain so I think I'll add more on whenever I have more free time.

This was the second friend I made for my studio. Isn't he cute?
I've had this pattern forever but never had time to sit down and sew it up. I think it came out super cute. It's a free pattern by Jenny B Harris. I did the flat version but the pattern has pieces for one that will stand up on it's own too. So quick to make and adorable too! Here's a link to it: http://allsorts.typepad.com/allsorts/2006/05/softie_scotty_d.html

Well my studio was completely clean until I decided to play with felt and then this was the result.
Hmm...my Pepcid and my evil hair color box are in the picture, didn't realize that when I took the picture. Guess it's time to clean...again!
