Paper Clay Skellie Doll is Finished.

I think I may be in love with this doll. She's a manifestation of turmoil and emotions that I've been dealing with in clay form. I started her just before my step dad went into the hospital and just finished her Monday night. She's a bit disturbing possibly and certainly not cute. She appears to me to be a bit sad and slightly crazed but she has a place in my heart.

Introducing Morilla.
This is the sneak peek I put on Facebook last night.
She's made from paper clay and has jointed arms and legs. She can sit on her own. I added diamond glaze to her eyes to get the glassy spaced out look that I'm sure I wear myself most days. She wears a simple skirt with dancing skellies on it. She has a headband with red roses.
Her body and head have 3D details but her limbs have the bones painted on. She has thighs, a separate knee and lower legs with attached feet that have been wired together.
She's the most complex, detailed and largest paper clay doll of mine to date. She's approx 13"  (32.5 cm) tall.
She and my felt skellie have been getting on great.

Worktable Wednesday

Both my worktables are a complete mess again of course but here's what I'm working on.
This is a prototype of a Bigfoot plush I'm working on.
The final will be done in neon green fake fur.
A skellie paper clay doll WIP. I might actually finish
before Halloween!

What's on your worktable today?

My Day of The Dead Skellie Doll is Done.

I originally started working on this doll as a skellie for Halloween but then she kind of took on a life of her own and ended up very different than I intended. She's not a traditional Día de los Muertos being no where near as colorful but she's my special version in honor of the day with a small nod to Frida Kahlo.
Here's the sneak peek of her unfinished I shared on Facebook yesterday.

The french knots almost drove me insane but in the end I was pretty happy with them. I hope you enjoyed seeing this doll/soft sculpture piece. She'll be available in my etsy shop by Monday.
Update
This doll is now listed in my etsy shop.

Wednesday Worktable

Wednesday has rolled around again and I am working on some things.
Painting paper clay bodies.
Started a skellie doll. So many bones, so much
sewing! This will be a long project.
Another witch WIP. Showing her in a naked
state so you can see how my dolls stand
on their own without a stand.
I received this blog award from June of I Sew Cute and haven't had a chance to acknowledge it yet. I'm pleased as punch that people enjoy my ramblings and creations. Thanks so much June!

Update on my stepdad. He's doing a little better. He's still on the respirator and still tied down cause he keeps trying to get out of bed. He's confused about where he is and what's happening. I feel more hopeful about his situation so am less stressed and am able to work again.

Lita Was A Doggie Skellie

for Halloween. She's not the kind of little dog who enjoys wearing clothes but Halloween and a coat in the winter I have to make her do. Well there is no need on Halloween except for my own personal amusement and the little kids like to see her dressed up.
I couldn't resit this when I saw it at Target!
My mom's trying to hold her still for a picture.

Skellies are Done...Sort of

O.k. whew these skellies wore me out! I almost went blind sewing all those tiny stitches. I still need to joint and attach their arms but was just dying to show them to you so I pinned their arms on for the photo. They will have attached arms by this afternoon. I hope I don't sound conceited but I really love how these dolls came out. I think they are the best so far. They weren't part of my original idea for my Halloween dolls set but I'm so glad I thought of them and then moved forward to do them!
They are skellies in love.
Each "bone" has hand cut without a pattern and sewn on. Yes I do know what bones really look like but the rounded blobby ones worked so much better for this design and were intentional.
Here's the last 2 sets in progress. The gray alien looking ones are mummies and the furry ones of course are werepeople. The owl fabric underneath them is for a new owl design I'm working on here and there as I have time. I saved the mummies for last cause I just wasn't sure that the design in my head would really work and I still have my doubts but I'm committed to them so will see it through.
I'm looking for a local photographer to shoot my dolls for me since I just have no room for a large light box set up here and I really want to get the best photos possible of my dolls.
I'll soon be starting on some fun Christmas designs and don't worry I haven't stopped making plush, more will be coming soon!
Thanks to everyone who leaves me such kind, encouraging comments about my dolls!
