Free Felt Jack 'O Lantern Pumpkin Ornament Pattern

Here's My FREE Felt Jack 'O Lantern Pumpkin Pattern. It can be made into an ornament, pin, hair clip and more!

The Jack 'O Lantern/ Pumpkin can go with my previous Halloween ornaments which, if you missed the pattern club last year are all now available in my etsy shop.

WARNING PHOTO HEAVY POST.

Here's How To Make This Jack 'O Lantern Pumpkin Felt Pattern.

DOWNLOAD THE PATTERN

First I printed out my pattern on Freezer Paper and then cut shapes out and ironed them onto the felt. I'm currently and massively in love with freezer paper right now. It's so handy!

I used freezer paper for the pumpkin shapes too. The best thing is you can peel the paper off and re-use it a few times. Perfect when making multiples of some shape.

Cut out your face shapes, peel off the Freezer Paper and play around with placement. This is just an idea, have fun and combine the pieces anyway you like.

Trace with pencil the detail lines on the front and the back if you'd like. If you are not into needlework, just leave these off.

Back stitch the lines on using either a lighter or darker embroidery thread color than your felt so they show up nicely.

Then do the same on the back if you want. You can leave the back plain or embroider someone's name and year on it too. You can see I freehand drew the lines but the pattern has them and they can be traced with parchment paper.

I appliqued stitched the mouth first on most the pumpkins to get the spacing right but the order you do it in is up to you. The face pieces can also be glued on using felt glue if you prefer not to sew them.

After I have the face sewn on I place and applique stitch the stem.

When both stem for each side are sewn I whip stitch the stems together.

At this point you can add a ribbon to make this an ornament. Make sure you
insert the ribbon before sewing the stems together.

This pattern can also be made as a pin or a hair clip, look at the free running bunny pattern and the free shamrock pattern to see how both of those are attached to the back..

You can sew around using a whip stitch or a blanket stitch and leave the ornament flat like the ones at the top of the page and you're done. I used the whip stitch for this project.

I added a purple pumpkin in place of one of the orange ones because some people paint them to let parents know the treats are allergy free. I made 4 pumpkins for a reason so keep reading and find out why!

I've decided to make a garland out of my 4 pumpkins so I stuffed them lightly with some poly fill. And sewed the opening closed I'm using the whip stitch here.

3 different oranges and a purple all sewn and ready to assemble.

I took a felt ball and a button and ran a 6 strand piece of black embroidery thread through the purple pumpkin.

Next I added another felt ball and using a doll needle shown below threaded the next pumpkin and the next felt ball and next pumpkin and so on.

It was to difficult on my own to take photos of this process so I have a video showing the
final project.

Enjoy this pattern and please share what you've made with me, I'd love to see! Questions or comments? Just let me know!

Halloween Character Garland Freebie PDF with Pompoms!!!

I made a super cute Halloween Garland with mini poms to hang over your dessert table, or porch, in your big bay window or wherever you what to display a little happy Halloween freebie decor.

First I enlarged the graphics I made from the Halloween Pattern Club.

I figured I might as well use them for another project too, right? Then I saw this cute video about making mini pom poms and thought these two things would go together in a cute way.

Supplies Needed:

  • A regular size dinner fork.
  • Yarn in various Halloween colors
  • Super sharp small scissors.
  • Yarn or embroidery thread to sew the garland together.
  • A needle.
  • Halloween characters and banner printables PDF
  • 80lb cover-stock, I used 90 but 80 is stiffer.

First make all the mini poms you'll need. I used 4 colors and needed 13 for my garland.

The fork is to make the poms on. As shown below. Don't worry I linked to a good mini pom making video to help you out!

You are supposed to trim them nice and round but I'm apparently not good at that. But hey a pom is a pom and they will work fine.

Here's the video I watched to learn to make these poms. I highly recommend watching this if you don't already know what you are doing...like me.

Secondly print out your Freebie Halloween Character Printable PDFs.

There are 4 pages with 2 Halloween characters each plus 4 banner images. Print these out on a good stiff card stock.

DOWNLOAD YOUR FREE PRINTABLES HERE!

Then cut each piece out keeping as close to the black line as possible.

The third step is to punch 2 holes in all of the character pieces.

After punching all the holes, thread your needle with the embroidery thread or yarn and get ready to start stringing.

This is a quick video of the process of beginning to start stringing the garland.

This video shows all the Halloween paper characters and poms strung together as one long garland.

I made a very long garland using two Halloween characters each, plus the banners. You can do as many or as few as you like. Have fun and make something that will make you smile!

I hope you enjoy these printables as much as I enjoy making them for you!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!

Worktable Wednesday: Father's Day Felt Freebie Kindle Cover Pattern and Tutorial

Let's face it, Father's Day presents can be pretty crappy. I tried to come up with a quick and easy project that was nice enough to give as a gift. I hope I did.

So, here is my FREE pattern and tutorial for a Felt Kindle Cover for Father's Day.

Here is what you will need:

  • 1 - 9" x 12" piece of felt in whatever color you like. I used blue.
  • Small scrap pieces for the collar, hanky and bow-tie in your preferred colors.
  • Sharp scissors.
  • Pins.
  • 4 small buttons in any color you like. I used 1cm white ones.
  • Embroidery thread that matches each of your felt colors.
  • Kindle Cover Pattern template. (see below for pattern link)
  • Optional: glue gun if you don't want to do the hand sewing.

Print and cut out the Kindle cover PDF pattern, it is a 2 page file, pin it to your color choices of felt and cut everything out.

Start by positioning this strip in the middle of the 2 1/2 inch mark ( the cover front is 5" ) or you can just eye it for placement.

Pin this strip in place the buttons will be sewn on it later.

Applique stitch the strip to the front of the Kindle cover using 3 strands of matching embroidery thread only along each side but not the top or bottom.

Next pin the 2 collar pieces in position and applique stitch using 3 strands of matching embroidery thread starting from the far outside (right top) down to the point and up to the middle of the neck as shown above.

Then blanket stitch around the neckline to the beginning point on the far right. Knot and tie off. Repeat on the other collar piece, sewing from the top left to the point and around left to the beginning.

This is what it will look like when the collar is sewn on.

Sew on the buttons. Mine are a little crooked which is driving me nuts but I'm just going to leave it.

Pin the pocket and hanky to the front of the Kindle cover.

Applique stitch around the pocket using matching thread and then applique stitch around the hanky using that matching color thread, knot and tie off.

Pin the bow tie in position and applique stitch all the way around using matching thread. Knot and tie off.

And finally you are in the home stretch!  Fold the Kindle cover and match up the edges. Pin to hold in place and blanket stitch starting from the far left bottom edge and sew your way around the bottom and up the right side, using matching embroidery thread. Knot and tie off.

  And you are done!

Side your Kindle in and see how cozy it is in it's new Kindle Felt Cover.

I like how the Kindle logo peeks out so you know exactly what's in there.

A felt Kindle cover project that is easy and takes very little time to make.
