Tuesday Treasures is Back.

I stopped doing Tuesday Treasures because they brought up a lot of uncomfortable emotions that I didn't realize I had. My childhood was not the greatest. I wasn't neglected or abused in any way but my family was very dysfunctional. Showing these few things brought up memories I thought were long buried and forgotten about.

Honestly I kind of freaked out and shoved everything back in the black space and slammed the lid! But then it occurred to me that perhaps it would be healing or at least good for me to get some things aired out and that it's o.k to be uncomfortable sometimes.

So I'm trying this again and I can't promise that I won't freak out again. I think I'll mix old treasures and new ones so we'll see.

Today's treasure is my grandma's beaded clutch purse. I received a few things when my grandma passed that my mom thought I might want, like some jewelery and things. My most favorite is this little clutch purse. It probably dates to the 60's. It's in great condition and It's my dress up purse.
It's made of an tapestry fabric then beaded. The handle is beaded too. The orange, yellow and green colors were her favorites and I always think of her when I carry it. I hope to pass this down to my daughter or granddaughter one day.

Do you have something you love from a special person in your life?

This is going to sound silly, but I have my grandpa's shoe horn! My grandpa loved shoes. For a man, he had a ton of shoes, and, for some reason, I have his shoe horn. Also, his aluminum tumblers that he kept in his camper. He was one of my favorite people ever, and it's nice to have these little things to remember him by.
Sometimes, the past makes us sad. It's not strange, and no one had a perfect childhood.

I know just what you mean....only thing with me is, I can't remember everything. As my sister says "Selective Memory" I've been working on it, kinda. It's easier just to try to forget. I wasn't neglected or abused either. Meaning: I was given a roof over my head and food on the table and no one physically beat me but...there are other ways to be neglected and abused. Sigh...I don't feel like remembering today. I don't have anything of my grandmothers. Just a couple of things of my Mom's. Most things my Dad regarded as not worthy of keeping...including my horse collection and my "little kiddles"...sounds like I'm whining. But I'm not, I'm fine now. I just want you to understand that you are not alone and to take joy in the "Happy" memories! I personally enjoy stuffing the bad ones down with chocolate!
XOXO to you, my friend! - Cindi
Oops! Almost forgot! Love that you have that clutch purse and that it holds happy memories!

love the bag, I have one from the 20's my Grammie was a flapper LOL
I've been pretty lucky everything gets past down to me, I'm the only girl, in a family full of men. I wish some of the heir-looms had been given to me later instead of when I was young, because I wore it, used it, enjoyed it!!!!

Oh, that is such a fabulous bag! I have a few random treasures around. Most of it came from The Hubbums' side of the family, though.
