Sassy's Friday Lovers Finds

I woke up this morning with my sweet Chihuahua Lita snuggled under the covers with me. I love her so much so I chose a love theme for my finds today. I started with Red Hot Lovers then moved on the different kinds of love. The titles below the photos are links to each seller's shops. Just click if you want more info about an item.
I love Heather's Meerkats and have one she custom made for me.

Tuesday Treasures

Sorry it's been a while since I've done one  these. I've had a lot of other things on my mind but I'm trying super hard to get back to a weekly Treasure post.

Another item from my childhood that I consider a treasure because they brought me so much joy are The Sunshine Family Dolls. I actually started a blog about them because I love them so much. Here's the link if you are interested. It's all about the history of the dolls and photos of my massive collection. http://ilovethesunshinefamily.blogspot.com/

I really hate showing photos of myself as a kid and NEVER do, cause my mom cut my hair super short and wouldn't let me grow it, so I always looked like I had a brown bush on my head and was constantly being mistaken for a boy! O.k. mother/daughter drama rant over (yes there are STILL unresolved issues there!)
Here I am on Christmas 1974 (pretend you don't know how old I am) and am holding my Sunshine Family dolls that I just unwrapped. (Wow look at that shag carpet and the Simon and Garfunkel album in the background, lol)

I adore these dolls because you could make furniture and accessories for them. They were a different kind of doll. The original DIY doll. The Sunshine Family consisted of Steve, Stephie and baby Sweets. They came with a little booklet that showed how to make a bed from a tissue box and a crib from a plastic berry basket, etc. Making useful things from readily available household items? I was so into that! I had the best time with just the dolls that later on my mom got me the house that came with furniture for them.

One of the best things about these dolls were that there were Grandparent dolls, which I had and also that they came in an African-American version too, called The Happy Family. I also had them and the Grandparents for that version.

One of my favorite things I had for the Sunshine Family was the portable Craft shop on the back of the Family's Pickup truck. You could make crafts for the Family to sell. You know this is probably why I'm so into handemade things today!

Another reason these dolls were so special to me was that I was the only one of all my friends to have them and everyone wanted to go to my apartment to play with them. I became quite popular, lol!

Unfortunately I don't have my original dolls, my mom did a doll giveaway and just took them all. (more issues there) But as an adult I found some at a yard sale and discovered that people were starting to collect them so I now have more than I ever did before and they STILL make me so HAPPY!

Did any of you have these dolls too?

Garden Shots and A Treasury

These two things don't have anything to do with each other but well, you should be used to my randomness by now.

Was out in my crazed, messy, overgrown garden the other day and took some photos of things that didn't look too bad. I don't know if you are in an area where the helicopter seeds fall from the trees but these things are crazy this year! We got twice as much falling than we normally do and in a high wind can really hurt if they get you. Anyway the point is they are everywhere and cleaning them up is a huge chore that I haven't been up to so you'll see them in my rocks and mulch areas...just ignore them, I do.

The best thing about my yard right now are the Hostas. They are so big and lush this year!

On my to do list is cleaning up the gazebo so we can sit out there. The bush in the back is taking over and needs to be trimmed.

The left side yard I haven't done too much with it butts up against the neighbor's jungle which grows thru the fence. Need to clean and put more mulch down.

The right side yard is the one we use the most. It's the closest to the pool. Trying to do a container garden over here.

I've got tomatoes, peppers and several herbs. They seemed to have survived the massive back to back to back thunderstorms we've been having.

I'm making a big push to get all this cleaned up so I'll share photos when I do so I'm held accountable and really do it.

Here's the treasury I found myself in this morning. So bright and colorful!

Messy Studio and WIP

A flurry of creativity plus some shelves coming down have created quite the mess in my studio. The shelves above my computer/printing desk have brackets that are super loose. So I had to remove everything off the shelves so they didn't fall on top of me. Now all of the toys and binders and books and fun stuff are piled on my felt table. Add to that a new box of felt has arrived with no where to go, plus me digging thru things and a huge mess is born.

Lovely isn't it?
I'm very stressed about this and tried to straighten up but I just kept making piles of new items with nowhere to go! I eventually fled to the comfort and calmness of my living room and made a nice felt mess in there. LOL! Hoping that soon my son will be nice and help his mom out and get my shelves back up.

New plush design sneak peek. Not an owl this time.

She is approximately 7 inches tall (19 cm) and completely  hand sewn and designed by me.

She's smaller than my original tulip owl but just as sweet.

A Herd of Seahorses

Finally got a sunny enough day to snap some photos of the seahorses. If you remember I originally did them in baby pink and baby blue colors. Decided to take it up a notch with some fun jewel tone colors and love them!

Some interesting seahorse facts:
Did you know that seahorses are fish? They are. Also in ancient times they were considered to be mythological creatures, like mermaids. Seahorses mate for life and male seahorses are the only creatures on this planet that birth their young. There are 35 different species of seahorses and some are on the verge of extinction.

Make sure you drop in tomorrow. I'll be starting a giveaway. Something fun and one of a kind!
