Worktable Wednesday

I had a supply shipment take it's sweet time getting to me so I had a few days to stare at the prototype I made, shown in the previous post. Good thing I had that time cause while sketching out the applique and embroidery designs that I'll be sewing on the final piece I realized the prototype wasn't going to work. So I redesigned it again to give more surface area and now can finally start the final piece.

One of the designs for the soft sculpture piece I mentioned above.

This is the color pallet for a project. So fun and festive!

One of my new felt shipments. I'm so eager to get my scissors into these!

I used all my current blue felt to cut these babies out. I'm currently sewing 1 set a night while watching tv.

I have little felt scrap stacks all over my worktable.

This sweetie is in need of clothes, but has to wait her turn.

I'm super, super busy right now, what are you busy doing?

Highs and Lows of This Week.

This was a crazy week! I spent several days watching live webnar classes about different business things. I learned so much and was happy I spent the time even though I was taking notes so couldn't really sew.

I've been working hard to get my facebook business page engagement up. I got about 20 new followers and have a posting schedule set up so I actually post things there instead of ignoring that page.

I have a rouge box of supplies that is in the wrong state but should have been delivered to me today.

Not much is happening on my website. I continue to get views but no sales. Not too surprising, I still need to do more work on things there, but at least the site is up.

I made my first Periscope video but it was a disaster! Mostly because Periscope and Androids don't work together. Wish I knew that ahead of time! My video turned out mostly upside down and mirrored and my internet connection went bad so part of the video was pixilated. Sigh! So for now I'm just making short videos and putting them on my Facebook Fan page.

The most amazing news is I got a commission for an awesome piece! My client doesn't follow my blog so I'm going to post wips here for you guys to see. She wanted just a few sneak peeks on social media and to be surprised by the final piece. I'll keep the final secret until she sees it.

She wants a soft sculpture of her chihuahua with Day of the Dead designs on it! And she gave me free reign over the whole thing! That's my kind of client.

Here's about the 3rd prototype. This one's a keeper. It's made it pink felt cause it's a lower grade felt I use for pattern making.

Now if only my supply box shows up so I can start the final!

Have you heard of Periscope?

It's an app that let's you record live videos that can be replayed up to 24 hours after the live broadcast. People watching you live can also type chat with you, asking questions etc. They can also tap their screens to send you hearts, which means they like you or what you are talking about and invite other on their twitter feed to watch you too.

It's a app for the Twitter people so you need a twitter account to sign up. People can follow you on Periscope like any other social network and you can block rude, annoying and unwanted followers.

I use Periscope to watch social media and handmade business marketing people. I also watch other artists. The artists I follow do wips, make art while you watch, talk about their artistic process etc.

People do all kinds of scopes, as they are called. Some people scope random life moments, some use the scope to promote their business, you can decorate a cake, re-arrange your living room, take the dog for a walk. Whatever you scope about some one will be interested.

There is now a new app called Katch.me which records your scopes and saves them in a accessible library. You can then put them on your website, blog or make them available to youtube. Oh and all of this is free!

Anyway, the reason I brought the whole thing up is I'm going to make my first video soon and I hope you'll watch. I plan on showing my studio, detailed looks at my new products etc.

I decided to put this Day of the Dead Skellie girl in my shop and here are some random studio shots of her that I really liked.

Here's A Peek At My Newsletter Frebie.

So working like a madwoman I was able to get my freebie tutorial pdf done just in time for my October newsletter release yesterday. I hope my subscribers liked it.

I decided to do a cute candy corn ornament. I updated an old pattern that I've had for a while. The pattern can be scaled up to make a plush pillow too.
Does anyone remember when I used to make these? (old pic)
How cute would these guys with different facial expressions be sitting in a window or on your couch? (old pic)

Wouldn't this be cute on a Halloween tree? Anyway completing this was a big goal of mine and I'm already thinking about November and December's fun projects

I also announced my website launch to my newsletter subscribers. I will inform the rest of my social media accounts next week.

I have one last thing to do for the website which is proving to be the hardest thing of all...my About Me page. I've always found that writing about myself is anxiety producing. But I'm pushing forward and getting it done today! Wish me luck.
